Our Mental Counseling Service and Psychotherapist

Free Consultation

Let’s see if this is a good fit! We recommend meeting for a phone consultation to discuss your needs, questions, thoughts or concerns you have before starting out your therapy journey. This can be a 15-20 minute call to review your current life experiences that you are seeking treatment for.
Philosophy

Recognition is the beginning of change.

Let’s challenge the stigma of seeking mental health supports and getting better connected with yourself. The mission at Be Seen is to provide high-quality psychotherapy services to individuals who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties that can disrupt emotional, physical, social, or vocational areas of functioning. We want to strive for personal fulfillment, empowerment, to educate, and enhance your agency through life.

Founder and Psychotherapist

Jenny Volkers, LMHC

From working in hospital systems throughout New York City and Long Island to providing psychotherapy services via Telehealth, I am experienced in working with children to adults in individual and group settings. When I engage with clients, I come with active listening and empathy to assist with becoming comfortable to participate in therapy.

I specialize in working with people experiencing symptoms of  anxiety, depression, grief, loss, life transitions and planning, disability, and stress. When in treatment, I approach people by learning and understanding their difficulties,  work on building skills, and collaboratively develop a plan of action towards being their own healer. As a clinician, I am dedicated to empowering clients through introducing and enhancing skills to gain self-awareness, adaptive coping, and decision-making for their own life journeys and their overall wellness.

My Approach

A person-centered approach is employed with the focus of being collaborative because you know you best. The goal of my role is to hold a position of support, adding language to further describe your lived experiences, help clarify your values, teach emotional literacy, develop solutions to problems, and identify strengths – all to work towards becoming a self leader. I integrate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) as methods of applying interventions to concerns.

Cognitive Behavioral

This is where we practice observing patterned thinking and core beliefs, identify unhelpful thinking styles called cognitive distortions, and learn tools to empower you in changing how you perform your outlook on life. We will review different types of tools to engage you in taking different perspectives.

Internal Family Systems

IFS is an area I have integrated into my practice, where I like to describe it as experiential learning to enhance your ability to practice emotional regulation through immersing yourself in the mind-body connection. The goal is to further understand the roots of your concerns, your emotions, and behaviors.
